23rd January 1931. Dear Mum, I wanted to get you something special for your first birthday away from me. I didn't want something that would wear out or get used up, I wanted something that would last, something that you can keep with you always. At last I thought of something that is all the things I wanted to give you. It won't ever wear out, you can't use it up and it will last forever and you can keep it with you forever.
